Shelves in the coat closet - ready to paint
The master closet gets better every day. This is looking outward toward the bathroom. The shelf at top runs almost all the way around the space.
Master closet. AV equipment will sit above the door. Behind the door, Stretch added a base for hooks to hold belts and ties.
Master closet looking inward. Single rail with three shelves on left, double rail and one shelf on right. The center structure is for adjustable shelves (stacked at bottom). Note the touches of crown mould at top and baseboard at bottom.
The closets are built with MDF, or medium-density fiberboard. It makes very nice shelves but produces loads of thick sawdust. This is a windowsill near the carpentry saws. No wonder some carpenters are reluctant to work with MDF.
The finished family room window trim! (Yes, that's a dusting of snow outside -- first of the season)
Another load of trim material arriving from Dublin Millwork
Excess trim material going back to the supplier
Removing trim in preparation for the pillar figure that will go between the windows
Back side of the pillar figure, glued and ready to mount
The pillar with crown mould and baseboard, ready for paint
Today just about every one of Stretch's hand tools is engaged
Kitchen drawers are easy to use without countertops covering them
More carpentry supplies neatly ranged inside the refrigerator space
We've decided to trim the sliding door opening like the big window across the room. In addition to looking nice, this will provide a frame to mount blinds. Stretch is clamping the pediment head in position.
Fastening the pediment head in place
Finished door trim. Handsome!

"Leg" detail at the floor. The trim filled every scrap of available space beside outlet and floor vent.
This rough pillar will soon be cased in trim
Stretch has the four "legs" or sides of the pillar trim ready to put up tomorrow
Back side of a "leg" showing how the crosspiece is fastened to the uprights
A trim frame will be built to conceal the edges of the existing attic fan
Looking from new basement into old. Drywall now conceals the rough outsides of the old foundation.
Three finalist granites and a backsplash tile. Clockwise from lower left: Giallo Napoleon, Autumn Brown, Yellow Tiger and Durango. We have the Durango in our current kitchen and really like it.
Bill from Marble & Granite Works is starting to measure for countertops
A laser is used to capture measurements of the walls and cabinets
A tablet PC renders the laser measurements into an outline of the walls and cabinet tops
Measurements have already been made for the walls. Next the fronts/insides of the cabinets are measured.
Stretch and Bill plan how the granite overhang will meet the trimmed pillar
Bill places another laser reference point
Completed cabinet and wall outline. Next the sink and range will be added, based on manufacturer and model. The granite outline will be the final step.
The kitchen-facing pillar trim has been clamped in position in order to be included in the measurements
Measuring to where the pillar trim will be. In this case the laser reference is two small upright pins placed on the steel strip.
The completed diagram. Walls are blue, cabinets black, range & sink green, granite red and seams brown.
The granite edge profile, 3/8 Round, had been selected earlier and was confirmed today
Now the pillar trim goes up for real. At each step, overall square and level are verified.
Stretch has been looking forward to finishing this
Three sides of trim are in position. Look your last at the orange pillar!
The trimmed pillar looks as though it was planned all along!
It was at this point I realized how Stretch had mirrored the cabinet door style in the trim design
The lighting isn't ideal, but this shows how the "wall" and "counter" pillars complement each other
Pillar detail. Stretch doesn't waste anything. The sketch is a concept for a buffet he's building for another client. The drawn-on piece of scrap was just the right size to finish the pillar.

With Jeremy's help, wall color candidates have been narrowed to three. Sample pints are ready for making the final selection.
This must mean the shower is truly done
