Stretch installed the hinge for the mud room bench seat...
...and hung the mirrors
More of the replacement switchplates
We decided to keep the original garage man-door, so Stretch is putting in new lockworks. Among his other skills, he's a certified locksmith, and he gave us a fascinating tour of a Schlage lock.
The old lockworks
Getting ready to make space for the new hardware
Nice update to the old hardware. Paint is next.
Cleaning where speakers will sit. Soon someone will have to wash and adjust all those shelves in preparation for loading with media. Hmmm...
Absolute Theater is here to do the final home theater connections.
Kyle Johnson of Absolute Theater. Kyle was a pleasure to work with -- he understood our requirements, proposed cost-effective solutions, handled changes cheerfully and provided great post-install support.
Positioning speakers
Left, center & front speakers
Family room subwoofer (had planned to use the old/current sub, but it mysteriously croaked same day)
The two home theater systems are quite a hodgepodge of old/existing (from both our and my dad's HT systems) and new. This Blu-Ray was actually a freebie that came with the TV.
A welter of wiring to the amp
In the not-too-distant future this may become old hat, but right now a 65" LED seems pretty cool
TV panel coming out of wraps
Back of TV
A wealth of remotes. The five single-device units at the top will be replaced by the universal remote at the bottom.
Flame on!
Hooray, the "old" 5-disc CD/DVD still works. The family room system will use both this and the freebie Blu-Ray player.
The "Top Gun" intro is one of our favorite ways to shake down a new AV system. Oh and BTW, the TV happens to be 3D. That will be interesting.
Ahhh, another favorite way to test a new system
It's fun playing the THX clip every so often just to watch the little Mario Brothers-like guy
Ready to be hammered with "Top Gun Anthem"
"Geez I crack myself up..."
The master bedroom system uses my dad's 42" LED panel. I am totally geeked that it's wall-mounted with no cables! The amp, Blu-Ray and DVR are hidden on a walk-in closet top shelf.
This corner of the office is fast becoming the house's head-end
Time to set up the router
While all the AV work was going on, Jim Witt painted the back and garage man-doors white...
...and the front door dark green
Jim also worked on areas where old wallpaper glue showed through. These will soon be ready for a third coat of paint.
