Getting There

Departure day finally arrived! Travelers came from as far away as Australia and Puerto Rico. Two flights out of Columbus combined in Philadelphia to make a single flight to Paris. Tour members making their own flight arrangements met the Philadelphia group in Paris. A few flight delays held everyone in Paris until the last few people could board buses for the long drive to Coutances. Also, the large instruments -- which had arrived in Paris days earlier – couldn’t be released due to a carrier paperwork error that made the band liable for (gulp!) €9,000 of French VAT. Many frantic phone calls and emails on both sides of the pond finally resolved the matter, but not until long after the buses departed. Some just-in-time effort from Historic Programs staff got the instruments to the band in time for performance the next day.
